Cheating on your healthy lifestyle

on April 17, 2012

I wasn’t quite sure what to talk about on this post.  To be honest, I haven’t felt like getting on my computer when I get home.  I work on one all day long and just the idea of getting on mine when I get home makes me want to cry.  🙂  So, I decided to unplug yesterday and it felt really good.

What I did want to talk about, is what I have been struggling with for some time.  Cheating.  When it comes to eating right, do you have “cheat” days?  Are there days where you set aside to eat whatever you want?  Or, do you just have something everyday?

When it comes to sweets, I simply can’t say no.  Ever.  If it’s in front of me, I’ll try it.  When I first started my weight loss journey, cutting out sweets was not difficult for me at all.  I knew they were causing me to be heavy, so out the door they went.  Now?  It’s completely different.

I do have some kind of idea what the issue is.  Stress.  We all deal with it, but we all reach for different things to control that stress.  I am a total control freak and a perfectionist.  If I can’t do it well, I don’t want to do it.  So when things frustrate me, I have a tendency to stress out about it.  So no matter how well I eat or how many cardio workouts that I do, my body does not react well to stress.

I was talking to a friend of mine today, who is a smoker, and I was trying to make her understand why I felt the need to turn to sweets when stress entered my life.  I told her that every time she wanted to reach for a cigarette, that is when I would want to eat something sweet.

With that said, I wanted to take a step back and rest the last couple of days.  Ahhh 🙂  I will be back to normal tomorrow!!

In other news!!  I woke up Sunday morning with a spider bite!!  I am not sure what freaks me out more, the fact that I have a spider bite, or that a spider was crawling on me!!

I am going to get into bed early tonight, got another long work day tomorrow.  🙂  Have a great night!!

  1. I hate walking up with a spider bite- it freaks me out! Yuck! I crave salty AND sweet stuff. Some days are super tough. 😦

Eek, waking up with a spider bite would definitely freak me out! I share your sweet tooth, and think it’s completely normal to have less healthy days and more healthy days. For me, Sundays are usually more relaxed but I try to keep away from the ‘cheat’ day mentality because I’m mindful of my tendency to go to extremes, and I don’t want super restrictive *or* super excessive days!

  3. sweet things are definitely my weakness too! I can say no to chips, ANYTHING salty or meat-y, but not to desserts! I try to remember to savor my bites and remember that the rest of them will still be there tomorrow, but I still end up eating way more cookies then I want to some days!

  4. Oh no! I hope the spider bite goes away fast!! As for cheat days, for some reason I just can’t control myself on the weekends and end up cheating quite a bit!
