Thursday Thoughts

Morning!  I really love that it’s Thursday!   It’s been a pretty good week so far, and ending the week hanging out with a friend is always a good thing.  🙂  Of course seeing Chris Hemsworth in Snow White and the Huntsman will be a great way to end the week.  He was on David Letterman last night….he looks so young without facial hair.  Ok…moving on. 🙂

Let’s move right into the Workout:

Holy goodness, Day three was just as hard!  More intense cardio!  I get more and more motivated each time that I do them.  Let’s just say that when I was finished, the sweat just poured from my head.  I felt completely spent when I was all finished, but I felt amazing!

A little recovery juice?  Yes please!

This is all that I have managed to get down so far

Ummmm, Coffee.

Thursday Thoughts:

  1. So last night was the final night of the Hatfields and McCoys.  I have to admit that I really like this little mini-series.  I really like Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton.  I really loved the history part.
  2. Nine days until my family and I leave for South Dakota.  Nine.
  3. After watching Marvels Avengers, I want to be a super hero when I grow up.  🙂
  4. What’s really cool is that my dad was one when I was a little kid.  He hung the moon.  (he still is)
  5. I am thinking about how I am going to fit in my workouts on the vacation trip??  Any suggestions?  I think the only days that it will be kind of difficult is while we are on the road.  I am taking the set because the thought of getting behind two weeks makes me cringe.
  6. Today is the Cardio-Recovery work out.  I am pretty sure it’s not what I am expecting and that I will be laying in a puddle of sweat when I am finished.
  7. I really need a tan.  I mean, really.  I am pretty sure that there is a glare coming from my legs.
  8. I am still in a baking moods, so I am thinking one really cool kick-butt cake this weekend.  Of course, I will just take it to church so others can share in the joy.  🙂
  9.  As I layed out my clothes last night, yes I still do that, I realized that I must really love black and gray.
  10. I really can’t come up with 10 thoughts this early in the morning.  🙂

I am really loving this song!

Call Me Maybe: Carly Rae Jepsen

This song is also addicting:

The Wanted: Glad You Came

And this one by One Direction:

Welp, I am off to get ready for work!  Have a great day!

How in the world is it Wednesday??

Morning!!  It’s hump day!  I can’t believe it…..Having a short week sure does throw me off, but it is so worth having an extra day off.  🙂  I am really excited for the weekend….I am off Saturday for one, but I am also getting together with a friend Friday night for dinner and a movie.  We are going to see Snow White and the Huntsman.  Yay!

I will get to yesterday’s workout in just a minute, but just let me tell you I am pretty sore this morning!  In the best way possible.  🙂  Aaaaand, I got the best sleep last night.

Let’s get to the eats shall we?

Tuesday’s Breakfast:

Cranberry Smoothie:

  • 1/3 frozen banana
  • 2 scoops Visalus
  • 1/2 cup of cranberry juice
  • 1/2 cup of almond milk
  • spinach
  • 1 tsp chia seeds

The spinach kind of gave it a green tint. 🙂

I finished off the cottage cheese by adding some sliced pears.

Chicken wrap with spinach and provolone cheese, pineapples, and cabbage salad.  On the cabbage salad I had this salad dressing:

  • 1/4 cup of olive oil
  • 1 tbsp of white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp of sesame seed oil
  • dash of sweetener
  • seasoning to taste

Tuesday’s Workout:

Day two of Insanity!!!  Holy cow!!  Plyometric circuit work outs are brutal!  Seriously, at one point (and I hate to admit this) I had tears in my eyes.  At one point I really just wanted to quit.  I mean, there were times I had to catch my breath, but I mean I just wanted to stop all together!  I didn’t think that my body could take anymore and then the tears started to swell up.  I have never cried over a workout before.   With that said, it felt amazing to complete this workout!!  Let’s break it down:

We started with a warm-up and then proceeded to do this two additional times……faster each time.  Then Shaun took us right into some great stretching.  I have always thought that a lot of DVD instructors skimp out on the stretching.  Not this one! After a good stretch, Shaun jumped right in with the first circuit.  He approached each circuit like the warm-up, three rounds each time, building speed.  He does stress that form is more important than speed.  🙂

It is exactly 10 days before we leave on our vacation to South Dakota.  I can’t even tell you how ready I am for this vacation.  🙂

I think we are actually going to have to pack some jackets and sweat-shirts.  Awww, I just hate that.  😉

Hope you have a great day!

Let the good times roll!

Not really sure if the title is anything special, but I would rather have the good time roll than bad one. Right?? 🙂  Morning!   I hope you had a great Memorial Day and they you were able to spend some time with your families.  🙂  I just took it easy and ran some errands.

So I managed to get through the first day of the Insanity program.  Holy cow!!  Just the Fit Test people and it had my legs shaking!  I can only imagine what today’s work out will hold.

How I felt?  I felt a little tired when I was doing it, but all in all, I felt good.  It’s amazing when you do something different.  I mean, I have done a lot of different work outs, but this was SO different.  In a good way. 🙂

Here is what the break down looked like, with my scores:

  1. Switch Kicks/100
  2. Power Jacks/39
  3. Power knees/91
  4. Power jumps/22
  5. Globe Jumps/6
  6. Suicide jumps/15
  7. Push-up jacks/18
  8. Low plank oblique/52

Every single move was pretty intense, I have the sore muscles to prove that!  Globe jumps consist of jumping in four corners and each time you complete the four corners it counts as one.  Push-up jacks were BRUTAL and that is all that I am going to say about that.  🙂

Today’s workout will consist of a Plyometric Cardio Circuit and will be about 40 minutes.  I will be sure to post an update on how the work out goes.  🙂

Monday’s breakfast:

I was in the mood for some more eggs, so I made up another omelet that included: 1 egg, egg whites, spinach and turkey sausage.

Monday afternoon snack:

Before you get too grossed out, this really is good!  Cottage cheese, pears, and some shredded cheese.  Yum!

Here are some of the things that I want to stay away from:

  1. Specialty coffee
  2. sweets of any kind
  3. candy

Things that I want to add:

  1. good fats
  2. whole grains

Today’s Breakfast:

I am thinking oatmeal this morning, but I am not sure.  Do you ever get up in the morning and have no idea what you’re going to have??

Hattfields and McCoy’s:

I am really excited about this mini-series starting!  I love Kevin Costner and I love this story.  I have only watched the first 20 minutes of it and it’s been pretty graffic.

I hope that you have a great day!!

Ahhh, Monday.

Morning!  I couldn’t wait to get up and out of bed this morning!  Today is the day!  I start the Insanity work out program!   Ok, I will have to admit.  I am a little nervous.  I am not sure why really, but I think it has something to do with feeling like my body will not be able to hold up to the intensity of the workouts.  Some days the workouts will only be 30 minutes, while other days it will run a full hour.

I think I am going to just trust Shaun T’s approach and just go with it! (but be smart about it!)  Let me give you just a little background on the Insanity program.  Shaun T created this program so that a person could get in the best shape of their life, in just 60 days.  He took all of the knowledge that he had gained from his track and field days and created these high intensity cardio drills, power and resistance moves, plyometrics and core and balance moves so that it will take you to another fitness level.

Starting this program was kind of why I posted this post.  I will not however, let age define whether or not I complete this program.  I want to be smart, I want to be safe, but I want to take my fitness to the next level.

That really is why I am doing this.  There are many reasons, but that is the main one.  I can’t get away with just doing the 20 minute workouts anymore.  So here goes….I am diving in.  I want to Dig Deeper!

I will actually do something that I have never done before.  Take my measurements.  Ugh. :/  I should have done this at the very beginning of my journey, but never did.  So I am going over to a friends later so she can help me.  🙂

Lol, I still can’t believe that I am a little nervous!  I think I need to puke.  🙂

Here is what it will look like:

Monday:  I will simply take the Fit Test, which will consist of these moves:

  • Switch Kicks
  • Power Jacks
  • Power Knees
  • Power Jumps
  • Globe Jumps
  • Suicide Jumps
  • Push-up jacks
  • Low plank oblique

Easy right?  (laughs nervously)  I think the only one that scares me is the power jumps.  My core isn’t all that strong and these, I’m afraid, require the core.   Hmm, I think they all do!

Month One:

After the fit test, I will be doing lots of aerobic and anaerobic interval work outs.  This first month will set the tone for my fitness level and help condition my body.

Month Two:

This month will actually add to what month one is already giving me.  The cardio intervals will become harder during this month as to condition my body even more.  Apparently my legs will be begging for mercy.  🙂

Shaun even includes a calendar so that you can keep up with each workout and know exactly what you will be doing the next day.

Yesterdays Lunch:

Blueberry/Banana Smoothie:

  • 1/3 frozen banana
  • 1 cup of frozen blueberries
  • 2 scoops of Visalus
  • 1 large handful of spinach
  • 1 cup of 35 Calorie Almond milk

Yum and Yum.

Yesterday at church, we had some special people speaking.  Our pastors son and daughter-n-law serve as Missionaries in South Africa.  Everything that they said was something that I really needed to hear, specifically the part that God is big enough to handle our struggles and that our time, where we are exactly at this moment in time, was ordained by God.

Here is some of the Scriptures that were used:

Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Acts 17:26-27 And He has made from one blood every nation of ment to dwell on all the face of the earth and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.

I know that missionaries all over the world want to change the circumstances of the people that they come across.  In order for us to follow Christ, or come to the knowledge of Him, we have to experience certain things.  The best part?  He knows exactly what those things are.

Would I have loved to have been born during a time when so much history was happening?  Heck yeah!  But here’s the deal, it wouldn’t be history to me.  It would be life and it would have been just as hard. I am able to do the things that I can now because of these historical things.   Did you know that because of your class, your setting place was dertermined.  Poor class couldn’t set with the rich, nor could they face the preacher.  Crazy right!?

I am who I am and I am at this exact point in my life, so that I will seek Him.

Anyway, just wanted to share. 🙂

I am off for some breakfast!  Today’s meal?  I am thinking some more eggs!  It’s a holiday today, so I will be checking in on ya later!

Oh!!  I went to see The Avengers last night and give it two very high thumbs up.  In fact, I am calling someone today to see if I can be in the sequel.  Really, I am.

Who was my favorite character?  Captain America!

I am currently watching Letters to Juliet.  Have you seen it??  Love this movie!

Working Out at any age

So I was thinking this morning as I was getting out of bed, “I am about to start this intense work out series…….can I handle it at my age?”  37 doesn’t seem that old to me, in fact it’s not.  Not at all.  But, I noticed over the years how much my body changes the older I get.  No, I am not talking about the change, I am talking about the pressure that you put on your body and  joints when you incorporate fitness into your daily routine.   Let’s see, I have been on this journey for nearly 12 years.  That’s a lot of work outs!!

I know that the older I get, the more important it is for me to incorporate fitness into my lifestyle.  Cardiovascular comes to my mind first.  With a history of heart disease in my family, that stays in the fore front of my mind a lot.

I used to think getting up at 4:30 to hit the gym was really awesome, but now I just like to finish a work out.  🙂

My thoughts on getting older are just that, my thoughts.  What works for me, might not work for someone else.  I know what my body can take and what it can’t.  Can I get up at 4:30 and go for a run?  No.  That is ok with me.  I am all for waiting after my breakfast and a great cup of coffee before I hit the pavement.  I know that things happen the older that we get; decreased muscle tone, flexibility, among other things.  I don’t think these are valid reasons for not doing anything.

Here are some things that I find helpful and that I will eventually have to do myself:

  • If you are a more mature adult and about to start working out, seek your doctor first.
  • Getting on a set schedule will most definitely help.  Make the commitment to change
  • Starting a new program?  Have a good support team around you.
  • Set realistic goals
  • Be positive about what you can do!
  • Design your exercise program to meet your needs
  • Be careful when chosing a program
  • Yoga anyone??

Good Morning!!

I really wanted eggs this morning, so I threw together an omelet:

  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup of Cage free organic egg whites
  • turkey sausage crumbles
  • spinach
  • 2 tbsp of cheese
  • Pepper to taste

I also had 1/2 of a 90 Calorie english muffin with some sugar-free jam on top.

I didn’t tell you yesterday, but my lil man Dalton, who is the best nephew in the entire world, has Mono!!

He has such a high tolerance for pain, that you would have never known that he was sick in the picture.  His throat is nearly completely closed!!  Poor lil guy.  I went to see him after I got off work yesterday and he asked me how I knew he was sick, and I told him that I used my Spidey senses to tell…..he laughed.  Kids are the best.  Especially these two:

I hope that you have a great day!!  🙂
