Bruised from Wednesday

on August 2, 2012

Well, hello there!   How is your Thursday treating you?  Boy did Wednesday leave a mark.  I got up grumpy, went to work grumpy, cried on my lunch break, ran a grumpy 3.1 miles, after being at church for 30 minutes I left grumpy, slept grumpy.   But let me back up a bit.

I got up wanting to get my run in first the yesterday, but after running on the ground and not the treadmill, my legs kind of felt yucky.  So I waited and just slept in.  I thought maybe I would run when I took my lunch break, but even that didn’t work out.  I didn’t really feel like fighting with the sweat and rushing back to work.  By the time 6:00 rolled around I had nearly talked myself out of running all together.  However, I didn’t.  I headed to my friend’s house and ran a sweaty 3 miler.  I was completely spent when I was finished, but it was well worth it.

I headed to church after my run to catch a special business meeting.  I can’t tell you how much I dislike this side of church.  Don’t get me wrong, they are necessary, but man.  In my world, I want everyone to get along and love each other, but I know that is not the case sometimes.  Ultimately, there is one goal.  To spread the Word of God, but not everyone is going to be a part of the same ministry.  I love mission work, preferably in foreign countries, but not everyone is called to go to Russia, or Africa, or China.  We were all created differently.  Different passions.  Different personalities.  Different outlooks.  But that doesn’t mean we don’t have the same goal or that we are wrong.  I don’t want to be made to feel that if I don’t partake in a specific ministry that I am this horrible person.  I can still support it, but not in the manner that is expected.  We all get frustrated and lash out, but sometimes its just a way of reaching out to people.  Our job is not to dislike someone because they don’t act a certain way, but to love them.

I left feeling down and spent even more.  You know, heavy sighs on the way home.    I hadn’t even had dinner yet…..ugh.  In case you were wondering, I did not stick to the meal plan.  In fact, I had an english muffin with nut butter and a banana.

I wasn’t sure how I was going to wake up this morning, but I feel so much better.  I was able to work some things out in my heart and in my mind and feel so much better about things.

Tonight I am going to do some yoga and just relax.

Meal Plan:

breakfast:    egg, turkey bacon, 1 slice of toast

snack:    protein bar/coffee

I am ready for the weekend.  Weekend, please be kind.    We are supposed to get some much-needed rain.  It’s so dry!!!

Hope your Thursday is a great one!!

i agree with you on the mission work Brandi. i left feeling sick at my stomach as well. didn’t sleep well either. i’m glad you got your run in, that always makes you feel better. luv ya lots!

  3. Aw, I’m sorry you had such a tough day. I really admire and like your stance on mission work (and religion more generally) though – there is no one ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ in my view. Well done on the run too!

  4. i’m so sorry u had a rough go of it…we all have those days when things just do NOT feel good or right. but i have to do a HUGE cheer because u experienced the answer to one of the paramount running lessons: is there ever a time u were disappointed in getting ur run in for the day? in contrast, are there times u were disappointed u skipped that run? on days i really am feeling blah, i just remind myself that if i blow off my run i’ll feel guilty but i know that if i do run, afterwards i’ll feel loads better. hope u have a better day today!! 🙂
