Protein for Runners

Morning!!  Whew!  I had the best time with my friend last night!  We both work for the same company and we can’t wait to get together and just chill out.  It’s been the 1st of the month all week….. Be kind to your banker.  🙂     My friend is also married and hangin out with me takes away from her family, but I am so glad to know she wanted to chill out with me !

Step Up Revolution!!   I am not going to spoil it for anyone, but if you like dancing, you will LOVE this movie!!  I am telling you, it was all that I could do to not get up and shake my groove thang.  Oh my word!  I can’t believe how talented these kids are!  Alex, you will love this movie.  🙂

After the movie, we headed to Olive Garden to have some dinner.  They have a new 2 for $25 menu, so we didn’t feel broke after we left.  We also enjoyed a nice little cocktail that was summery sweet!  Let’s just say I slept like a baby.  🙂

 

Protein for Runners:

Since I started running, I have really wanted to get it right this time.  I want to learn what to do before, during and after a run.  Short run, long runs.  All of it.  I don’t have a runners body and my legs are kind of short, but that isn’t going to stop me from running or doing it right.

I can put one foot in front of the other, but I wanted to find out what runners fuel their body with supplement wise.  More specifically, protein.  I found this list on Swanson’s Health Products and wanted to share:

 

  • Celadrin.  This supplement is great for your joints and the pounding that you give them when you run.
  • Fish Oil.  Full of omega 3’s and essential fatty acids, fish oil helps the blood vessels dilate.

  1. i saw that movie… you know me too well. I seriously want to dance like them. Please teach me someone! Great post about protein, I am experimenting with protein powders to see what i like best.

  2. I eat a lot of tuna and almonds. I put almonds in my oatmeal and my salad for lunch.

  3. great topic!! and yes, protein is something super important for runners…sometimes it gets overlooked because runners also need carbs, but don’t skimp on that protein either! 😉 u’ve got a great list of ways to get it, i usually like to eat mine (tuna, shrimp, and eggs are my top pics!). i’m not a big smoothie person so i don’t usually like the powders, but if people can’t get it in from other sources, by all means. 🙂

  4. I have been amazed at how many carbohydrate foods contain protein – quinoa being the biggest, but even oats to a certain extent. They don’t go the whole way but I used to think protein was just meat and eggs, and I have loved finding out how many other options there are! Nuts are one of my favourite 🙂

    I love Jay Robb’s egg white protein shakes – whey and soy protein upset my stomach, so egg whites are the way to go for me! I mix them in my AM oatmeal and stir-fries at night!
