Run Fail

on August 16, 2012

Yay it’s Thursday!!  Morning!   I love getting up early.  I really do.  I accomplish so much when I get up early.  I love to chill out and take my time waking up, get a workout in, blog, drink my first cup of coffee slowly….you get the picture.  🙂

Yesterday I learned a couple of things about myself:  I can’t eat a copious amount of laffy taffy throughout the day and then make it through my afternoon run.  :/  Fail.  Whew!   After work, I headed over to my friend’s house to hit the treadmill, but it did not happen.  I started off walking and even tried to start running, but it wasn’t happening.  The other thing that I learned was that I don’t like to run without music.  I forgot my cell phone at work (this is what I use while I run) and I didn’t really want to drive all the way across town to get it, so I thought that I would run without.  Nope, not happening.

One final thing that I learned.  I can’t expect a great run if I don’t drink a lot of water throughout the day.  I always drink at least two glasses before I get out the door, but I don’t remember drinking any other water the rest of the day.

So.. candy, no water, and no music made for a crappy run.

Today will be different!!

I am the type of person that if I can’t do it well, then I don’t want to do it.  Toda I am going to say not to laffy taffy and drink my water!

Cait, from Cait Chocks, wrote a great post on the importance of hydration here.    My friend is so understanding and lets me just barge into her time with her family!   Her husband cracks me up, every time I walk thru the door he is like, “it’s you…..again.”   Lol.  🙂

Right now I am just enjoying a great cup of coffee with my lil man Ghost.  I will be enjoying one egg, turkey bacon and one slice of toast.

Question:  For all of you runners out there, how do you keep yourself motivated when you have a run fail?  How do you prepare for an afternoon run?

Have a great day!!

  1. Drinking lots of water is VERY important if you want to have a good run. I usually drink 4-5 Nalgenes a day!

The Run Fail blues… it depends on the Run Fail. Sometimes I’m really good at mentally pushing through and other days I totally quit and just give up.

I really make it a priority to not push myself through off workouts now that I’m not an athlete and don’t have to. I’ve done it enough in life. Good job though! you’re a beast.

  3. i do that a lot, eat something and just flat regret it on my run! Sorry about that!

  4. I actually never run in the afternoon :S I’m an early morning person too and find it hard to function without my morning exercise. But, I definitely struggle if I’m under-hydrated!

  5. awww, shucks, thanks for the shout out and link love m’dear!! 🙂

Ugh, a run fail will stick with me until I have a full good one. I had a great 7 miler on Wed but think I pushed the pace too much so by Thursday my 4 miler was on dead legs. So I rested Friday and today hit my long run with a new attitude and it’s all good.
