Looking at my hands.

on January 18, 2013

Happy Friday my friends!   I am really glad that we have all made it to this day together. Smile

I am in the parking lot of McDonald’s again using their Wi-fi…..  I know, I am horrible.  Is it stealing if I am not ordering anything??     Anyway, it’s super busy today at work and we are down in the employee department so I don’t have a lot of time here.

I wanted to give you guys an update on how the 31 Days of Gratitude Challenge is going.  I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed this challenge.  There really isn’t any pressure at all and the exercises that we have completed so far have been really eye opening.

The first exercise was the Mirror Test and you can read about that here.

Challenge: Spend the week tending to a part of the remarkable body that serves you. Beginning today, choose a part of your body that you’ve been dismissing or have been neglectful of and pay special attention to that area for the next week by nurturing it every day.

Take from Ellen blog at Fat Girl Wearing Thin!

What body part did I choose?    My hands.

I really wanted to take care of them this week.  I work with paper all day long and I usually keep my nails short due to typing, but this week I really wanted to pamper them.  I put lotion on them (when I thought about it!) and even did a hand scrub to get all of the unwanted bits on my hands.

It’s been kind of a long week and not even this challenge was making it better.  But as I was typing my comment on Ellen’s blog I noticed something.  My hands look like my mothers…….this made me smile.  I can remember being little and looking at my mom’s hands and thinking that they were so lady like (they still are) and wishing that my hands looked like that.  This also made me think of the times that she would hold me when I was a kid and I would just stare at her.  When she would look at me I would quickly close my eyes to pretend that I was asleep.  I am sure she knew I wasn’t.  Winking smile

All of this made me smile in the midst of a long week.

The weather is beautiful today and there is a nice breeze.  Perfect hiking weather!   I have a few more hours left in the work day so I better get back to it!

I hope you have a great afternoon!

  5. This is such a beautiful tribute to you and to your mother. Very touching, and how sweetly satisfying that amidst such a hectic week you were able to find a tender, loving thought that carried you through this exercise. This really warms my heart – thank you for sharing and for all of your comments and posts, Brandi. xo
