Ebb and Flow of life

It’s nearly the middle of August and Fall is just around the corner.  I’ll be the first to admit that I actually pulled out my Fall decorations this morning.  You know, just so they’ll be close by when it’s time to put them out.

This mornings breakfast is brought to you by bacon….

two eggs, a few slices of roasted potatoes, shredded cheese and bacon

So good

I’ve actually been nursing a back injury for a few months now so working out has been put on the back burner for now.  Something I don’t like.

I finally gave in and have been going to physical therapy three times a week.  Just this week I am finally starting to have some relief and I am so excited about that!  There were mornings that I could not walk unless I sat on a heating pad for 30 minutes…..at least.  Incidentally, I used the heating pad so much that it stopped working!

Crossfit has become such a big part of my life that I can’t see myself not doing it.  With that said, not being able to do it has given me a lot of time to how I approach it.  One of the big things that I have not given much attention to is mobility.  Stretching after a workout, especially at my age, is really important.  When your mobility is taken away, you kind of learn to appreciate it when you have it.

I’ve also learned that as an athlete, it is still our responsibility to be proactive in our own health.  Don’t get me wrong, I hang on to every word the coaches say but I also know that they all can’t come home with me, watch what I eat, make sure I stretch, get enough water.  These are things that we are to monitor and control ourselves.  Besides, we’re adults.

It’s definitely opened my eyes in such a way that if/when I make it back, I am going to approach it differently.  I want to focus on getting stronger with out hurting myself.

Above anything, I have missed the community.

Moving on…

It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly three months since my mom passed away.  Grief is such an ebb and flow of emotions on a daily basis.  Just the other day I had a horrible day at work and all I wanted to do was talk to her.

Even as I gathered the Fall decorations this morning, I thought of her.  She loved to have the house decorated and doing it this year will be bitter sweet without her.

IMG_1060

I never really think of her as gone…..just away.

I love that God created us to withstand hard things.  To adapt.  To grow from adversity.  For everything, there is a season.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Smooth-ie Kind of Saturday

When it comes to smoothies, I can be a creature of habit.  One of my favorites is the gingerbread smoothie!

IMG_6145

  • 1 scoop of chocolate Shakeology (or any chocolate protein mix)
  • cinnamon 1/2 tsp
  • ginger 1/4 tsp
  • chia seeds 1tsp (add zero flavor/added for extra protein)

The other day on my lunch break I decided to head to Tropical Smoothie and try their detox smoothie…

IMG_6551

It was actually really really good!  I was a bit hesitant because I didn’t really want it to taste well, green.  lol! 🙂

I liked it so much that I had to make one of my own!!

IMG_6559

  • just over a cup of water
  • handful of baby kale
  • handful of spinach
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup of frozen cubed mango’s
  • chia seeds
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of ginger

I really loved it and can’t wait to make it again!

I spent Saturday (4/3/16) afternoon at the soccer field, getting lunch with family and a spur of the moment pedicure with the girls….. There were six of us!

Dealing with…Anything

Well good morning!  I’m setting here enjoying a protein smoothie (post workout) and a cup of coffee with my mom 🙂

IMG_4195

(taken a couple of months back)

I am truly feeling blessed this morning.  Blessed to be alive and blessed beyond measure to still be enjoying my parents.  They’re doing what they love…..RV’ing…….and I still get to spend time with them.

This is my dad as a baby…. 🙂

This mornings bible study was about anxiety and how we allow it to run our lives.  There is freedom my sweet friends.  There is a way out of anxiety and depression controlling our every decision.  You see, God is not a source of anxiety, fear is.  God also doesn’t intend for us to deal with anxiety.  I mean what exists that you can’t trust God with?  Nothing.

I don’t have to fret and worry or be anxious for anything when it comes to my BIG God.  He didn’t say, “lay it down gently”.  He said…..”cast your burden down”!

I want to share just some of the things that might cause us to be anxious or fearful:

  • feeling of inadequacy
  • attempt to change things I have no control over
  • failure to trust God to provide our needs
  • priorities are misplaced
  • attempting to live tomorrow, today

We don’t have to live this way my sweet friends!

  • You are enough
  • you can’t control everything
  • you can trust God with every need
  • my priority is in Him
  • I can trust Him enough to live just for today!

Ok….. so my best friend is going to kill me for posting this picture!  But I just booked my flight to go see her in October!!!  Agh!!  I can’t wait!

I told her that I didn’t care if we just took naps and went to Starbucks the entire time I was there……..lol.

I do think that going trick-or-treating will be apart of the plan…  Aaaaaand, they have a Trader Joe’s!

What Christmas Means

As I was on my way into work yesterday morning, the coolest Christmas song came on the radio.  B 98.5 here in Arkansas plays Christmas music the entire month of December!  It’s a Christmas party in my car, on my way to work, everyday!  🙂

Anyway, the song.  I believe it is by this group called Panatonics and the name of it is, That’s What Christmas Means to Me.  I love it!   It reminded me of the reasons I love this time of the year!

Aaaaaaand, I wanted to share them with you!

  • Baking.  I mean who doesn’t like to bake during the holidays.  I love to bake all year round but there is something about this time of the year that makes me want to try new recipes.  I think the next thing I want to try is a cheesecake!

  • Candles lit.  I love love love candles.  I love turning my light off in my bedroom and just lighting a candle while I watch a Christmas movie this time of year. So cozy!
  • Presents under the tree.  Okay.  I am not about getting a bunch of presents but there is just something about them being under the tree.
  • The smells.  I love the smell of the holidays.  Sounds weird but things seem to smell better.
  • Snow.  There’s always a chance for a white Christmas
  • Christmas movies!!
  • Family
  • Friends

  • Hot chocolate

  • Hugs and cuddles from my niece and nephew

  • The Birth of Jesus.  “And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”  Luke 2:7

Last Christmas 2013

IMG_3273

I got my first workout in since my procedure!!  All that I have to say is that it hurt.  A lot.   My doctor told me to wait at least 4 to 5 days before I get in a workout.  I waited 7.  Before that, it had been a while since I consistently worked out.

Did I mention that it hurt?

Oh my goodness!  I had to modify the modifications and there were a couple of times that I thought I might puke! Its so amazing how much strength you lose when you don’t consistently stick to it.

My entire body was shaking!!

🙂

That’s about it!  Going to work this morning and then coming home to chill out before next week!  Have a lovely day!

Weekend Happenings

You know, I just love the weekends.  I love that we get to relax a little before we start our next week.    It’s kind of like a new start in a way 🙂

And I am aaaaall about new starts!

IMG_3047

I can’t believe this month is halfway over and that Christmas is nearly here.  I don’t know about you but I am so not ready for the next few shopping days that we have left.

IMG_0731

This is from last Christmas!  I can’t believe how little my niece and nephew are in this photo!!

IMG_3042

I know they probably look the same to you but man time sure does fly!

What are your plans this weekend?

I am going to spend today with my mom and the kiddos doing a little shopping and I am sure I will bake something… 🙂

I would also like to organize my closet some.  The weather changed so drastically here in Arkansas that I haven’t had time to really go through my winters clothes and get them ready.  Plus I am not sure of the winter shoes that I have either.

I want to try a new recipe.  Something with pumpkin I am sure.

Paint my toe nails.

Plan my meals

Plan my workouts

Have some quiet time that doesn’t actually include the tv and instagram.

Dance 🙂

IMG_3021

My brother at our Harvest Party we had a few weekends ago…..  Don’t you love that look?  He looks just like my dad!  And let me say this….I haven’t gotten that look from my dad.  Several times.

My mom and I are going to check out Kirkland’s holiday decor on our outing.   I l.o.v.e. that store!

I am hoping to pick up a few groceries today too.  I’m in desperate need of some fruit!

What’s your favorite fruit?

In no particular order, here are some of my favorites:

  • apples
  • banana
  • Clementine
  • pineapple
  • strawberries
  • grapes (both red and green)
  • cherries

Mixed-Fruits-15-AC996402V2-1600x1200

Just a few things….

Apples:  They have to be cold and crispy!

Bananas:  Very very yellow.  No brown and certainly not green.

Cherries:  Rainier all the way!

Just a little cat humor 🙂

Have an amazing day!
