Smooth-ie Kind of Saturday

When it comes to smoothies, I can be a creature of habit.  One of my favorites is the gingerbread smoothie!

  • 1 scoop of chocolate Shakeology (or any chocolate protein mix)
  • cinnamon 1/2 tsp
  • ginger 1/4 tsp
  • chia seeds 1tsp (add zero flavor/added for extra protein)

The other day on my lunch break I decided to head to Tropical Smoothie and try their detox smoothie…

It was actually really really good!  I was a bit hesitant because I didn’t really want it to taste well, green.  lol! 🙂

I liked it so much that I had to make one of my own!!

  • just over a cup of water
  • handful of baby kale
  • handful of spinach
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup of frozen cubed mango’s
  • chia seeds
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of ginger

I really loved it and can’t wait to make it again!

I spent Saturday (4/3/16) afternoon at the soccer field, getting lunch with family and a spur of the moment pedicure with the girls….. There were six of us!

I mean seriously!  Is my niece old enough to play big girl soccer!!??

My nephew and his “I am not aware of you taking my picture Aunt Brandi look”  🙂

Oh!!  And I got a new job!!!!   More on that later 🙂

Long weekend!!

Morning!   I am so happy that It’s Saturday!  I can’t tell you the last time that I actually was able to sleep in until it was daylight outside.  I do like my schedule during the week, but man it was oh so nice to sleep in this morning.

Yesterday was my parents 44th wedding anniversary.  My dad took his bride to a nearby town where they are at and spent the day just muddling around.  I am so blessed to have the parents that I have and I love them so much!

I am currently enjoying a cup of coffee and thinking about the things that I want/need to do today.

  • Wash my car (it’s a hot mess)
  • laundry
  • drive to JCP to check out the sales on dresses
  • clean out the fridge
  • workout (thankfully it’s just yoga)
  • run an errand

Or, I could just stay in my pj’s and watch movies all day.   I’m going to enjoy the yoga this morning because my legs and arms are soooo tight…..I upped my weight!  I am starting to see definition in my arms and that makes me smile!

As I said yesterday, we had something go on at work that just broke my heart.  In the end however, it all seems to be working out.  It reminds me that we just have to trust Gods plan for our lives, even if we don’t understand it sometimes.

Living out your life is a beautiful thing.  As much as I am a control freak, not knowing is a beautiful thing too.  Oh there are so many times I love just taking the wheel and driving myself, but then there are times of complete surrender and I just have to let go.  Knowing how my life is going to play out would be a good thing to know, but let’s be honest here….I don’t want to know.  I want to just live in this moment.  This moment of surrendering my moments to Him.  Make sense?

I had a conversation with a parent this past week in where I realized how different times really are.  I can remember growing up and only have Pac-Man and Atari.  My brother and I played outside all of the time and we had lots of cuts and bruises to prove so.  I had plane jane barbies, Strawberry Shortcake blankets and my brother had GI Joe…..or was it Smurfs??  Anyway, it was very simple.  Simple in the fact that even when we were teenagers, there was no Internet, social media, or cell phones.  Simple.

Let me say this, I love those things and believe that they can be utilized for good, but I just don’t want it to consume my life.  I don’t want to not be able to communicate without them.

Social media and the internet remind me of things that I can’t have or that I really want and will not be able to afford.  There is a balance of course, but I just don’t want to get to a point of not being grateful for what I have and not day dreaming about things that I want.

I am not saying it’s not ok to dream about things that you want in life, but again, there must be a balance.  I want to be content with what I have and yet desire to achieve better.  Does that make sense?  I am not good at conveying sometimes, but I just wanted to share.

I had another conversation with this young man that gave me hope that the next generation desires morals, good relationships, and is kind of old school.

It’s a long weekend and I don’t have to be back at work until Tuesday!  What about you?  Do you have any plans this long weekend??

I think I’ll bake cookies this weekend too!

Anatomy of a good smoothie!

I hope you have a wonderful day!!

Morning on the go!

Morning my sweet friends!   Just popping in to say hello and to tell you that I hope you have an amazing day!   Make the most of every moment!

All clear

Well hello there!  It has turned out to be a beautiful day!  I went for a run this morning to clear out all of the fog….

3 Mile run and 20 box jumps later……. all clear.

Some friends of my parents came into town and we all went to have lunch together…..the super cool thing was that our restaurant was on the White River.

So pretty!

I meant to share this smoothie recipe with you the other day:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop of whey protein powder
  • 2 tbsp of maple almond butter
  • blend

And that’s it!

The other day I had a conversation with a girl about weight loss.  It didn’t last very long, but she had mentioned that she was starting her new “diet” Monday and that she will be taking these injections to help her lose the weight.  It’s called the HCG diet.  Well this intrigued me so I looked it up.  Let me make it clear that I am all for the natural way when it comes to losing weight.  It’s calories in, calories out people.  This is no way any support of this “diet”, it’s just knowledge.

Here’s how it works:

  • You restrict your diet, or food intake, to 500 calories a day.  Mostly organic, unprocessed foods, but 500 calories.
  • You also restrict yourself to these injections daily (or you can use drops)
  • Stick to this for 45 days to cleanse your body, help your metabolism, and lose weight
  • Did I mention that you will also starve?

A couple of things: (from me)

  • I think it’s pretty impossible to stick to this and still get in enough nutrients
  • HCG is not something that you can get over the counter; it must be given by a doctor
  • you will lose muscle mass because your body will be in starvation mode
  • you will gain the weight back

I know it’s hard to lose the weight, trust me I know.  And, I am not against certain ways to do it.  I just think it’s about being smart when it comes to your body.  Thinking about what you are putting in it and taking the time to listen to it.  Do I do that all of the time?  Of course not!  But it is a daily, conscious effort to live a healthy lifestyle.  I like to doing it and l like helping others learn new ways to do it.  Not everything is going to work for you and what worked for me, may not work for another, but being healthy is the most important thing.

Encourage each other

Take time to listen to your body

Eat right

Eat wrong on occasion (but not every occasion)

Read up on everything

and then read some more

Don’t put chemicals in your body

Be kind to your body, you’re the one living in it

Questions:  Have you ever heard of this hCG diet?  What are your thoughts?
