Happy Halloween!

Well hello there!   As I type this up I am baking some Halloween cookies!   I got the recipe from Brown Eyed Baker.  Monster cookies!

Did you have a good day?   My day actually ended at noon today so I was pretty happy about that.  I didn’t get my run in this morning so I got right on the treadmill right when I got home.  This week mother nature has hit pretty hard and my “visitor” is giving me headaches and making me a grumpy person in the morning.  I hope to be back to normal by the end of this week!  It’s amazing how that little thing throws your entire week off!  (if there are any men reading….sorry!!)

Workout:

Today I had a 4 mile run on the schedule and couldn’t wait to do it!  Like I said, this morning was a no go, but by the time I got home I was ready for it!

Mile One:     9.08

Mile Two:    8.54

Mile Three:    8.45

Mile Four:    8.45

Total time:    35:30

Average Pace:    8.50

I did some stretching when I was finished and then I like the song so much that I was listening to, I got my grove on.  🙂

Breakfast:

I really wanted some oatmeal this morning, so I grabbed a bag and added 1 tbsp of almond butter.  I also wanted an egg and some grapes…

For my snack this morning I grabbed a banana and some pumpkin spiced pecans that I had made earlier in the week..

This really hit the spot!

After my run I jumped in the shower and cleaned up and then made myself a smoothie for lunch.  I added all the fabulous nutrients:

  • 1 cup of 30 Calorie almond milk
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup of frozen cherries
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • scoop of protein powder
  • and a large handful of spinach

No picture…..sorry!!  It was good though. 😉

I am working on dinner right now… 😉

Dinner:

One chicken link, steamed veggies, and one red potato.  Yum yum and yum.

Cookies!!

So while I was typing all of this up, the cookies are done!!

I think they turned out pretty good.  The house smells wonderful!  You really must make these cookies!  I haven’t tried one yet, but they sure smell good.

Where I live at, we don’t have very many kiddo’s that come by for some candy on Halloween, but every year I think we gain at least one or two more kids.  So I ran by the store and grabbed a bag of candy….  Not good that it’s in the house, but whatever is left I am taking to work tomorrow and I am forcing it on the customers.  Really, I am.

Happy Halloween guys!!

Oaty-licious.

I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for Fall.  This 100* weather is brutal!

Nice hair! :p

Leaves turning means that it’s fall and this I can’t wait for.  Mainly for selfish reasons…..I would like to not feel like I am going to stroke out when I go for a run.  🙂

I mixed up some overnight oats before I went to bed last night and can’t wait to dig into them this morning.  I really love eating this for breakfast.  There are so many things that you can add to them!

  • 1/3 cup of gluten-free oats
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 1 tsp of chia seeds
  • 1/2 cup of Cascadian cereal
  • 1 tbsp of nut butter (white chocolate dreams)

Yum and Yum.

Workout:

I did manage to get a run in yesterday…..2.2 miles.  Not very far, but I felt great doing it. I did however, wake up with a twinge on the top of my left foot.  Not sure what that is about, but will play it by ear.  I don’t want to injure myself and not be able to do anything.  I like to get my runs in on M-W-F, so my plan is to get another run in today, but with the pain I may set it out……still undecided.  I am also going to do a DVD workout with Jessica Smith.  Aaaaand, I will continue my push-up challenge!  I am up to 22!

Did anyone watch the ladies balance beams last night??   Is it just me or does anyone else get emotional when they perform??  Or with the Olympic commercials that come on??  🙂

Happy Wednesday!!

Morning Wednesday!

What day is it??  Is it really Wednesday??  I think it is?   Somehow, I feel like I have lost a day.  🙂  I went to bed pretty early last night, but around 11:30 I woke myself up having this nasty coughing fit.  Agh!  How’s my voice this morning??  Um, I don’t have one.

Did I ever mention that I hate being sick??  I do.  Very much.  I haven’t worked out in three days and that is starting to bug me.  I mean really bug me.  I am going to stomp the heck out of this cough!

Breakfast:

Butterfinger Smoothie:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2 scoops of Visalus protein powder
  • 2 tbsp of butterscotch sugar-free pudding mix
  •  1 tbsp of Almond butter
  • 1 tsp of chia seeds
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 3 ice cubes

Out of all the new smoothies that I have been making, this one is my least favorite.  I am not a big butterscotch fan, but thank goodness the nut butter balanced it out.  I may try to just put one tbsp of butterscotch flavoring next time.

Man, days like this I really just want to go to work in my pj’s, with no make-up on, or my hair fixed.  🙂  Can we wear scrubbs to work???  No we can’t.  😦

Thanks for all of the encouraging words about the post on braces.  I really can’t wait to get this started!  Whoop!

I am off to take a shower and get the day started.  Sort of. 😉

Have a great day!

Drinking my calories

So, today I noticed something.  I have actually noticed it for a while now, but didn’t really want to admit it, or even say it out loud.  I think (I know) that I might be drinking some of my calories.  It’s not something that I even want to think about giving up, but I really believe that I need to.  At least lower the intake.

If you knew me personally, you would know that giving up some of the beverages I drink is going to be very difficult for me.  I love coffee.  I love Starbucks.  I even love McDonald’s mocha’s and iced coffee’s.  I could drink them all day, everyday.  There have been days that I have had two specialty coffee’s.  Two!!  Now, I go for the non-fat, and I make modifications here and there, but I truly believe that if I was to reduce the intake of my favorite beverages, specifically, coffee, I would feel a lot better.  I found a couple of websites that talked about “drinking your calories” and found it really interesting.  The first one that I found was Rethink Your Drink, from the CDC (Center for Disease Control).  The second was, How to not drink your Calories.   Soda’s are not an issue for me, but I still think that I could use some of the ideas and apply it to drinking the specialty coffees.  Let’s be clear, when I say specialty coffee’s, I mean; Peppermint Mocha’s, White Chocolate Mocha’s, Latte’s, etc….  Things I love..;)

Like this.

Yesterday afternoon I made one of the best smoothies.  In the mix: 1 frozen banana, frozen cherries, 2 tbls of peanut butter, 1 tsp of chia seeds, 1 tbls of flax, and 2 % milk.  Holy moly it was good!  And it made quite a lot too…:)

I thought that I would try regular milk instead of almond milk.  It really didn’t change the taste at all.  Super filling!

Breakfast this morning was the usual, and as usual, it hit the spot.

I thought that I would show you some of the items that I use as “additions”.  Organic Wild Blueberry jam on my English Muffin and some Truvia in my coffee.  I normally use like half a tsp of the Truvia.  It doesn’t take much.  🙂

I woke up today with very sore joints.  Not really sure why, but maybe it’s the weather.  Lower back, knees, ankles, wrists, and shoulders were killing me.  I thought about staying in bed for more sleep, but got up anyway and hit the workout.  It helped somewhat, but the joints still ached.  It’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow, so it could be the front coming in.

Lunch today was very random.

Half a piece of chicken, strawberry Dannon greek yogurt with some rice chex, fresh strawberries with some 70% dark chocolate drizzled over them.  A lite lunch!

Once I left work tonight (at 6:00) I headed to the track for a run.  It’s been rainy today as well, so the track was wet.  Um, it was cold too.  I geared up and put my hood over my head, put some gloves on, and took off.  2.61 miles, with a 9.04 average pace!  I am really enjoying this whole running outside thing.  🙂

Here’s another picture from Kazakhstan

Tomorrow I am going to give you a list of some of my favorite books!  I hope that you have had a great day and that you have an even better night!!
