Elf For Health Challenge!

Well how are you today?  Did you survive the feast from Thanksgiving dinner??  With the lungs that I have been coughing up, I haven’t had much of an appetite so I think that I did alright.

So today is Friday and I haven’t ran since Sunday.  When I woke up Tuesday morning, I had planned on running the two miles on my schedule, but by the time that I got home I felt horrible and was running fever.  Wednesday rolled around and whatever I have had settled into my chest.  Every night I would just tell myself to assess my body when I woke up the next day and go from there.  What has it told me?  Rest.  I am not sure what is going on, but I don’t really want it to turn into pneumonia.  So I am going to listen to my body and give it what it needs.

I am excited to share some pretty cool news with you.  Smile     I am going to be an Elf!   Need me to explain??

Elf For Health Challenge:

This is a six week challenge that starts this coming Monday thru the first week of January.  Throughout the six weeks there will be daily tasks, daily winners, prizes, weekly newsletters and lots of support.

Still going to be assessing the way that I feel to determine whether I run or not.  Do I like not being able to run….you bet, but I also don’t want to put myself in a situation where I can’t run for a long time.

If you are hitting the stores this morning, be kind and be safe!  🙂

Don’t forget to vote!

Morning!  Yay!!!  It’s Saturday!   I work today, but I don’t mind it so much because it’s only three hours.  My parents are home from their time away (they stay gone 8 months out of the year) and so they are getting acclimated to being home.

Here is how my Friday went:

Adapted recipe from Brown Eyed Baker  Chicken Pot Pie

My day will be filled with a 3 mile run and some stretching.  🙂

With Thanksgiving approaching, I wanted put something in each post that I am thankful for.

I am thankful for a loving family that supports me and encourages me to keep going forward.

Happy November 1st!

Happy Thursday!  Can you really believe that it’s November already?  I mean time really does go by fast when you think about it.

I got to watch the sun come up this morning on my run. 🙂  This is one of the many reasons why I love my treadmill being outside.  Although when it gets colder it will have to be moved inside.

Today’s schedule called for a speed drill/tempo run.  Let’s look at it shall we…..  I started out with a  minute warm-up then for the next run a 10 minute tempo run.  The goal was for me to get faster every two minutes with the last two minutes really rolling!

Mile One:    9.17

Mile Two:    8.28  (fastest mile to date!!!)

Mile Three:    8.43

Mile Four:    9.02

Total time:    35:39

Average pace:    8.52

I’ll tell ya, this tempo run kinda hurt……but the good kind of hurt.  It really forced me to push past my comfort zone.  By a lot.  😉  Whew!!   It felt really good!

Turkey burger no bun, roasted red potato, half of a banana.

No picture.  🙂

Running update:

Since October is ending, I wanted to give you guys an update on how much I have enjoyed my running journey so far.  It’s been really cool seeing the progress and actually being able to run miles that I never even thought that I could run.

Here is my first run that Cait sent to me on October 1st:

2 Miles.  It took me 18:55 minutes to run it and my average pace was 9.23

On Tuesday, October 30th, Cait also had me down for a 2 mile run:

2 Miles.  It took me 18:03 minutes to run it and my average pace was 8.57.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever see myself running like this.  It’s crazy when I think about!  I love to get into a conversation with someone about and tell them that if I can do it, so can they.  No matter how fast or how slow, just get and run!

Have I loved every run? No, not really.  Most of them, yes.  With running I have learned that you just have to take it day by day.  The body is such a mystery sometimes and that is why it’s so important to fuel it the right way so that the run will be great.  Fuel it with junk, the run will be junky.  🙂

What’s been the hardest?  To be honest, the eating part.  It’s something that I am still trying to find a balance with.  I want to properly fuel it correctly, but I also don’t want to overeat.  I also want to eat enough during the entire day and not end up wanting to eat a horse at the end of the day.  Cait has a post about this very thing right……here.

I just have really enjoyed the entire process of running and this balance that comes with it.  I have also enjoyed having someone like Cait on my team.  Someone that knows what she is talking about and someone who really just loves everything about running.  I have complete confidence in her and what she sends me.  🙂

Today, November the 1st, I am thankful for the life that I have.  The breath that I have and that God sees fit to sustain it.

Have a great night!

Bonfires and Puppies

I hope your Monday has been a good one!   It’s my last day of vacation…. 😦   Back to work tomorrow!   I came back home pretty early, so I have had most of the afternoon to relax.  I took a quick cat nap and then headed to the grocery store for a few things that I am out of.

Sunday was a pretty busy day, but it was a great one!  I did manage to make it to a local gym in Mt View AR and do my long run.

It was extremely dark when I went inside the gym, but this was what I saw when I came out…. 🙂

7 Mile Run:

Mile One:    8.59

Mile Two:    8.50

Mile Three:    8.41

Mile Four:    8.52

Mile Five:    8.38

Mile Six:    8.42

Mile Seven:    8.48

Total Time:    1:01:41

Average Pace:    8.48

This was a totally different treadmill and it felt kind of like running on the ground.  There wasn’t a whole lot of spring action.  I felt great during the entire run and my legs felt great too!  One thing that I forgot to do though was drink some water before I left for the gym.  Maybe it’s because I was off my normal routine, but man!  I was pretty parched when I was finished.  Lesson learned.

Sunday was also filled with a bonfire and popcorn.

There were also puppies and naps Sunday…

This weeks Workout Schedule:

Monday:    Rest/stretching

Tuesday:    2 miles/core session

Wednesday:    4 miles/stretching

Thursday:    4 mile speed drill

Friday:    core session/stretching

Saturday:    3 miles

Sunday:    Long run/7 miles

It’s amazing how quickly a vacation no matter how big or small can kind of get you off your routine.  😉  I love having time off, but I also really like having a routine.  Just for fun, I thought that I would share my daily routine with ya.

5:00-6:00 a.m.  This is the time frame that I usually wake up in the morning.  If I have to run, I definitely get up at 5:00.  I like to spend about an hour to 45 minutes having some quiet time and catching up on the blogging world.

6:00-7:00 a.m.  If I have a run to do or any kind of workout, this is the time that I have blocked off for that.  If I don’t have a run, this is the time that I start my breakfast.

7:00-8:00 a.m.  I start getting ready around 7:00 and can normally get finished by 7:45.  I like to be on the road to work by 8:00….sometimes it doesn’t always happen, but I don’t have to be at work until 8:15 anyway.  When I go in late, I have a little more time to get ready and maybe even do some laundry.

8:15 a.m.-6:00 p.m.  My work day.  Sometimes it ends at 5:00, and if I have to work on Saturday, it will end at noon.  I never eat on my “actual” lunch hour.  I am usually eating my first snack around 10:00 and then I will eat my lunch at 12:00 or 12:30.  I can really drive my co-workers nuts with my time management.  It’s a gift.

I spend the rest of the day catching up on things, such as:  laundry, eating dinner, tv, reading, blogging.

I hope you have a great night!

Holla Thursday!

So how is your Thursday going so far??  Well, I am officially on vacation for the next few days!  I made it to where my parents are at around 11:45.  I think that every time I come here (Mt View AR) the trip seems shorter and shorter.  I was really looking forward to seeing some fall foliage, but the trees were either dead or the leaves hadn’t turned yet.  It’s pretty breezy here today and I think that it might rain/storm tonight.

It’s pretty low-key here and I am not complaining one bit.  I went outside for a while and read for a bit, but it became and ordeal to hold my head up so I came inside and dozed for about 30 minutes.  I am not ashamed.  🙂

I have also tried something new…. pluots

Not sure what type of fruit that it is, but it was pretty good.  🙂

Part of my drive here….

It was speed drill day!!   I felt really great this morning before my run.  I couldn’t wait to get my gear on and get out the door.  I was a little concerned because my IT band has been a little pestersome this week.  I have stretched and foam rolled extra this week!

Mile One:    9.35

Mile Two:    8.33 (holy shiitake mushrooms! Shaved 60 seconds off of my fastest mile!)

Mile Three:    8.45

Mile Four:    9.11

Total Time:    36:03

Average Pace:    8.59

Done and done.

Welp, that’s all she wrote!  I hope you guys have a fantastic day!!  🙂 🙂

The temperature is supposed to drop tonight and I cannot wait!!   Eeeek!!  Cold weather!!
