Keeping a Balance

Well I get to enjoy another late day.  With the exception of Monday (thank goodness for the holiday) I have closed every night this week.  I have to work until 6:00 today aaaaand tomorrow.   I am off Saturday and that is a good thing.

After dinner last night, I did some stretching and was pretty much ready to go to bed right after.  🙂  I was out by 10:30 and up this morning by 6:00.  I have a run scheduled this morning and I am pretty excited about getting out there!  Speed drill!!

 

Since I didn’t post last night, here are the rest of my meals at a glance:

 

Snack:

Strawberries and 10 pretzels

 

Lunch:

Chicken wrap with lettuce, spinach and arugula.   Must remember to bring something to add as in sauce…..this was very dry!  Good, but dry!

 

I also finished up some of my Kale chips.

And had half of a banana….

 

 

Dinner:

Steamed brussels sprouts, turkey patty, and one roasted red potato.

One of the things that I wanted to work on when I started this training with Cait was also my food portions.  I wanted to take a step back and look at some of the small things that I was sneaking in and not really counting it.  I don’t mean counting calories, because I really don’t like doing that.  I mean, one cookie here, a cookie there.  Specialty coffee’s everyday, a piece of candy there….  I don’t want to completely restrict myself from enjoying these things every now and again, but I also know myself well enough that it’s very hard for me to stop eating/drinking these items once I get started.  I also know that restriction can lead to a big binge so there has to be a balance somewhere and that is something that is a process and different for every person.  🙂

…and the day continues :)

How was your day??   Somehow I blinked and it was time to go home.  Not sure where the day went, but it flew by!  It was pretty low-key until this afternoon.  Busy!  We also have a new-hire and I felt like I couldn’t devote the time I needed to with her.  As a matter of fact, we were so busy from 5-6 that I just told her to set back and observe!  It normally isn’t usually such a madhouse, but being the first of the month and all it seemed like there was a lot going on.

 

I ate so well today!!  With some of the changes that I have already implemented I feel so much better lately.

 

Mid-morning snack:

I went for half of this Coconut chocolate chip Clif bar 🙂

 

Lunch:

Yum!!

 

Dinner:

 

Salad!!  This was so good!    Um, there’s a creeper!!  🙂

 

 

The last couple of weeks I have really tried to not be so hard on myself.  You know, the little comments here, the cut-downs there….NO MORE!  I don’t think that I have ever been happy with my body.  No matter what size I am.  My main goal is that I want to feel good aaaaand feel good about myself.  We have freedom of choice in everything that we do, but it’s what we do with that time.  I can choose to eat junk all the time, but in the end that is going to make me feel crappy.  I can choose to skip my workouts, but we all know that isn’t going to happen.  🙂  But there are some days that I really need to listen to my body.  Can I get through a tough workout if my body is being fueled on junk?  No.  Everyone is different though.

 

I have two hours until bed time!  Going to finish the night by reading some of my favorite book!  Have a great night!

“But that is not for us to decide…

….All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to us.”  I am not sure if there are any Lord of the Rings fans out there, but it happens to be one of my favorite movies.  After Frodo expresses his thoughts about bearing the One Ring and wishing that none of the bad things they had been experiencing had happened, this is what Gandalf tells him.   The actual scene plays out like this: Frodo:  “I wish the ring had never come to me.  I wish none of this had ever happened.”

Gandalf:  “So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for us to decide.  All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to us.”

Anyway, now that I have completely ruined my super cool reputation…ahem.  🙂   I still think it’s a great quote.  It may not be a ring, but we all have dealt with things, or currently dealing with things that we wish we could just pass onto someone else.  We are only here for a little while.  Why not make the most of each moment that we are given. 

Breakfast:

Udi’s Gluten free Cinnamon raisin bread, with almond butter, a banana, and chia seeds. 

 

Today was a half day for me, so all I packed today was a mid-morning snack, or first lunch as some would say. 🙂

As you can see I still have a few things left on my list to do.  I am getting ready to do the last BodyRock workout in the Challenge.  I can’t wait to see what they have in store next!  I just went to the website to print out the workout and it looks pretty awesome!

 

Lunch:

When I got home from work today, I wasn’t sure what I wanted for lunch.  I grabbed the tofurky and some black beans and then went for some brown rice…..nothing seemed like it would satisfy me.  So, I remember printing off a smoothie recipe that I found on Peanut Butter Fingers the other day and made it instead.  Boy am I glad that I did!!

Julie’s recipe:

  • 3/4 cup 2 percent milk
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder

What I changed:

  • 1 cup of 35 Calorie unsweetened Almond milk
  • 1 scoop of Whey chocolate protein powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 6-8 frozen cherries (yum!)
  • 2 tablespoons of peanut butter (I’m a freak what can I say)
  • 1 tablespoon of carob powder 
  • handful of spinach

This smoothie was the best I have ever had.  I actually measured all of the ingredients on this one.  I usually just throw everything in there and frankly there is no telling how many calories I was consuming.  So, I measured.  It’s something new that I think I going to do.  😉

This thing was SO chocolatey and SO good!   I am still not hungry!! 🙂

I am off tomorrow and I am so glad.  May actually run to Target tomorrow for the sports bra.  Got a big day planned with the family.  Going to make this homemade pizza and yes, eat real cake.   I can’t wait!

Well, I am off to prepare for my Sunday School lesson.  I teach the 1st thru 3rd and let me tell ya, if you wing it……………….they know.  Of course my niece is in my class and she is brilliant. 

And beautiful. 🙂 

Oh!!!  I forgot to tell you…. I got a message from one of my students that I had while I was in Kazakhstan!  I was super stoked when I saw it and then when I finally read it, it made me tear up.  She has been taking English classes and can now speak better English.  Enough to write and have a conversation!  I was so happy to hear from her!

She is on my right.

It’s Monday! :)

Hello people!  I hope that your day is going super!  I am currently setting at McDonald’s taking advantage of the time to get some blogging in.  I have class tonight right after work, so I won’t have time to do it once I get home.

 

I don’t know about you, but this was much-needed this morning.  For the last two nights I have slept so well.  There was no waking up off and on or any potty breaks in the night.  Which is not something that I regularly do.  I woke up this morning not really wanting to workout…..I even got into my workout clothes and sat on the bed desperately trying to talk myself out of doing it.  It didn’t work.  With class and all I will not have time to get one in tonight.  So, I got up off my behind and hopped to it!

Workout:

The Firm Cardio Party (30 minutes)

I felt so much better once I was done!

 

Breakfast is a recycled photo seeing is how I had finished my meal and realized I hadn’t taken a picture of it.  What??!!

I had the English Muffin minus the Clementine.  I forgot those were in the refrigerator!!  I also tried something new in my coffee this morning.

Not much different from what I am currently using.  🙂

 

This was my view on my way to church yesterday:

It actually ended up being a really bad night of storms in Arkansas last night.  Yesterday morning was super cool, but by the afternoon it was near 70, which=storms.  On my way home from church last night, the lightening was SO bad!!  It was like this dance party in the sky!  Normally, storms do not scare me, but this one was freakin me out.

 

So, I am two days with no iced coffee and no mochas from McDonald’s.  If you knew me personally, you would know that this was a BIG deal.  When my mid-morning snack rolled around I was actually hungry for it. 🙂

 

I little later I will be having a turkey sandwich with some greens and a piece of 70% dark chocolate.
