Am I a Runner?

Morning!  And how are you this morning??   Now I remember how difficult it is to balance blogging and work. 🙂

 

After work yesterday, I went over to my friend’s house to run.  Let’s just say that getting on the treadmill was the last thing that I wanted to do.  I was tired, sluggish, it was brutally hot and I wasn’t even sure if I could even run at all!  Boy when mother nature hits it makes you feel like you are walking in slow motion!   I did get on that treadmill and I did run.  2 miles exactly.

This got me thinking.  Am I a runner?  Would I consider myself a runner if I was in a conversation with someone?  When I am standing in front of a person whose legs go all the way up to the sky, would I call myself a runner?  When I have a few pounds on the average runner, would I say, “I run too!”??   When my miles add up to just a warm-up for someone else, would I call myself a runner?  If I didn’t have the same gear or gadgets, am I still a runner?  If both of my feet don’t come off the ground, am I still a runner?

I really really like to run.  I love how it makes me feel.  I love the fact that it pushes me just as far as I can go and then just a little more.  When I take off and I feel great and my lungs take in air, I smile.  It’s cool to learn about pace, gait, negative splits, etc.  I really love that when I eat right throughout the entire day my run seems light.  The excitement of waking up the day after a great long run.  The strength in my quads that I feel after run.  The motivation that comes from other people who run, even though you may not feel like a “runner”.

So I asked myself, “am I a runner?”  My answer would be, yes.  I think running has helped me find a part of myself that I didn’t know existed.  A strong part.  Running has allowed me to meet very cool people and have great conversations.  It brings a smile on my face when I feel apart of a sport.

Some will run longer.  Some will run harder.  I may never run a full marathon or even a half.  My long runs my only get to 6 miles or maybe just 5.  I may never have a running partner.  I will never get taller or my legs will probably not grow any because of running.  I may never have a 7 minute mile.  But I will run anyway.

I run.

I am a runner.

 

 

 

 

A busy day ahead of me!  Work is calling and then the yard needs to be mowed…..again.  With all of the rain that we have gotten in the last week, it has grown a lot!

Did anyone watch So You Think You Can Dance last night??   It’s getting down to the final dancers!!  I am still amazed every time that I watch this show!

September Goals

Hello!  How is your Sunday?  I hope it’s been a good one!

 

We had church here in the RV park this morning at 9:30.  It was a great service and the music was really great!  I didn’t mention it, but there are a lot of singers and musicians here.  Listening to them sing this morning was really cool.  🙂

 

After church, we headed to a very cool restaurant to eat…

The place we ate even grows their own herbs!

 

After lunch I waited for a bit and thought that I would go down to the local walking park and well, um…..walk.  🙂

It was a little dry…..:)   I walked for 30 minutes and then headed back to pick my mother up so we could got pick up my dad’s birthday cake.    Wait!!!!   Happy birthday to the coolest man that I know!!   I love you Dad.

 

Once we got things set up for a get together this afternoon, I needed a nap.  I dozed for a bit on the couch and it was nice!

 

Update on August Goals:

Let’s see, here were my goals for August:

  1. Push-up challenge.  When I started this, I wanted to start off realistically, so I started with 10.  Keep in mind I have continued to stay on my knees throughout the challenge.  I made it all the way to 35!  Aaaand, 10 on my feet!  I would say that this goal was achieved!
  2. Carb.  This goal not so much.  I really wish that I would crave so many carbs.  I eat well throughout the day, but anything extra is always seems to be a carb.
  3. Running!  I have continued to enjoy this so much!  I have even worked on building my speed and pace.  I ran 4 miles and did negative splits: 9.06, 8.58, 8.49, 8.40.  Total overall pace was 8.53 and I finished the run in 39.08 minutes!  Going to continue my journey with running.  I have even signed up to be on Caits September Miles Madness!  Go team Cait!!
  4. Yoga.  I have really loved learning new things about yoga.  I didn’t realize just how important flexibility is in your body.  Especially with age.  I am not as limber as I used to be!  I want to continue this in my normal workout routine.

 

Moving onto September Goals:

  1. I really want to find some sort of plan that helps with my craving sugar and carbs.  Well, really a plan that will help me walk away from things like that.  Here’s the deal.  I love to eat.  I love everything about food.  Texture, taste, smell.  But what I really want is more of a balanced diet.  I don’t even want to use the word “diet”.  The only reason that I do is to describe my food intake.  I want to crave more lean food than sugary ones.  But what works for me make not work for someone else….aaaand I am not going to starve myself.
  2. Running.  Still going to continue learning more about the art of running.
  3. Stick to a budget.
  4. Continue doing push-ups daily.  I really do like doing them and they really do add definition.

 

Well, that’s about it.  Short and sweet.  Nothing to off the wall and really they seem just like my August goals, but right now for my body it works for me.  I am going to keep doing this and keep listening to my body.

Do you listen to people?

I actually love Wednesdays.  Want to know why??  That means there is only two more days until the weekend!   I am off this Saturday and the day is all clear!  I don’t have anything to do.  I might paint my room, or just hang out around the house.  I might go see a movie!  That is the beauty of it, no plans.  Ahhhh.

I kind of unplugged again last night….  I had some blood drawn yesterday (Tuesday) and was feeling really tired.  I didn’t even take any pictures yesterday.  I did manage to do some yoga!  I did a 40 minute session and it felt amazing!  The moves were to relieve stress and let me tell ya, it worked!!  At one point I could have just closed my eyes and gone to sleep in one of the positions.  It felt great!  When I was all finished, I felt sooooo relaxed, which is what I needed.

I slept great again last night!   I got up at 5:20 (Wednesday) and threw my running clothes on and hit the treadmill.  Woot Woot!  3.21 miles.  With negative splits I might add.  🙂

I went home on my lunch break today and put in a 20 minute arm routine.  That felt great too!

 

Back to the blood talk.  I did finally get someone to listen to me!  And what do you know, it was a woman.  I was really candid with her and told her everything.  And my symptoms.   Before I left, she took two tubes of blood and will be doing a complete blood panel.  Thank goodness!  I wasn’t going to leave until they took blood.  Know what I’m sayin!

I was just glad that someone finally took the time to listen.  🙂

 

This got me to thinking.  Most everything gets me thinking.  🙂    Anyhoo, do I really listen to people when they talk?  Do I take the time to really try to understand what they are saying.  Sometimes I don’t.  I really want to make an effort to really listen to people when they talk.  Do I have to give an opinion?  No, not always.  Only if they ask, but even then, it is still just my opinion.  I think it’s just nice to be heard.

We live in such a fast-food mentality.  I want it now, and fast!  Do we really take the time to engage with someone.

 

**I had this post prepared yesterday and was going to post it when I got home, but um…..I left my laptop at work and really didn’t want to drive all they way back in to get it.  Something came up with one of our merchants and I didn’t leave work until 7:00 pm.  Ugh.  Soooo, another night of being unplugged.  It wasn’t a bad thing.  I went to bed early and got up feeling great this morning!**

Another side note.  On my lunch break I went outside to “finish” this post by using McD’s wi-fi.  They were really busy or I would have gone inside…….Um, let’s just say it’s HOT outside and sweat was involved!!  Ahhhh, the life of a blogger.  🙂

 

Breakfast:

 

I just love eggs.  Don’t you?  I really like them any way.  Hard-boiled, fried, poached, scrambled….you get the picture.  🙂

Lunch:

I was so excited about my lunch today……Salad.  I love salads.  Everything about them.  The texture.  The endless things that you can put in them.  The freshness of them.  Well, sadly, my greens have gone bad.  I packed up my salad last night, but by the time I was ready to eat it, it had gone bad.  Smelly bad.  **sad face**

 

Question:  What do you do when something like this happens?  Do you scramble around trying to find something to eat??
