Class has officially begun!

Morning!!¬† ūüôā¬†¬† I took a bit of a break yesterday from blogging so that I could just relax and mentally prepare myself for my Seminary class that started yesterday.¬† As a matter of fact, I think I only took pictures of breakfast.

One banana, two slices of gluten-free cinnamon raisin bread, and almond butter.

Workout:

Here is why I love working out so much.¬† If you ever feel like you are dragging or have no energy.¬† Take a walk, or a jog, or pop in a workout DVD.¬† This always¬†does the trick for me.¬†¬† The BodyRock website hadn’t put up the new workout for Monday yet, so I grabbed on of my Firm DVD’s and worked it.

My church is associated with the Southern Baptist Convention and one of the many super cool things about them is that they offer what’s called Seminary Extension¬†classes.¬† These are classes that anyone can take, even if you are not studying to become a pastor.¬† Which I am not.¬† I have taken two classes so far and this will be my third.¬† History of Christianity,¬†Systematic Theology, and now Christian Ethics.¬† After taking the first session last night, I am pretty excited about taking it.¬† Want to hear something cool?¬† I read a small devotion before I went and it referenced the scripture in Romans 12 verse 2.¬† “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”¬† Well, when I get to class and read the second paragraph of the intro, it was the same passage.¬† I shouldn’t be surprised, but it was nice to see the connection and the affirmation of the class.¬† The class will cover the next 10 weeks, with that said, my plan is to still work in a workout, eat balanced meals, and get plenty of rest/sleep.

Workout:

Today’s workout consisted of the BodyRock 2012 Challenge Week 3 Day 11.¬† Which took about 20 minutes.¬† It hurt.¬† ūüėȬ† The second part did anyway.¬† Push-ups!!

Breakfast today!

Overnight Oats:

In the mix:

1/2 cup to 1 cup of 2% milk

1/3 cup of gluten-free oats

1 tsp of chia seeds

1 tbls of wheat berries

1/2 scoop of whey protein powder

*not shown is 1 tbls of almond butter

Directions:

Put all ingredients into a covered bowl or cup.¬† Stir ingredients and put into the refrigerator.¬† Eat the next morning.¬† It’s a great recovery breakfast.

Well I am off to shower, get to work and hopefully have a great day!¬† I guess that last part is up to me.¬† ūüôā

Question:  What about you?  Any challenges coming up this week or in the next few weeks?

Goals for 2012

I have never really been big on “New Years Resolutions”, but I do like to set goals.¬† The only problem in doing so is that I never really¬†write them down.¬† Ok, I don’t ever write them down.¬† I am not sure why, I have just never done it, more specifically, when it comes to healthy changes that I want to accomplish.¬† I just do them.

On most of the blogs that I follow they had compiled a list for 2011 and have gone back to revisit them.  I am not going to have that, but there were some goals that I wanted to reach.  This time last year I was a completely different person emotionally and that was something that had to change, so my goals for 2011 mainly deal with that.

  1. Accept me for me/Like myself
  2. Stop comparing myself to everyone else
  3. put one foot in front of the other
  4. take a seminary class

Not one “health” related goal.¬† I wasn’t sure where my life was going at the beginning of 2011 and eating healthy wasn’t at the top of my list.¬† Oh sure, I ate alright, but not in a way that I really wanted to devote time too.¬† If that makes sense?¬† I have been changing my health habits for about 11 years now, but this year I just felt sad.¬† My age??¬† Was I depressed??¬† I didn’t really know.¬† I had been in a relationship for a couple of years that had ended, but I had already checked out of it before it actually “ended.”¬†¬† Maybe I was detached from life??¬† Whatever the issue was, I just felt off.

So what did I do?¬† I prayed.¬† This may seem simple to you, but it frankly was the only thing that I knew to do.¬† I didn’t want to be in the same place that I was.¬†I was so messed up that I didn’t even know how to start my prayer.¬† God knows when we are messed up, so I really didn’t even need to speak.¬† He knew exactly what I wanted to say.¬† He heard me anyway.

At the beginning of 2011 a Seminary Extension class “fell” into my lap.¬† I say that because it really did!¬† Little did I know these classes were offered through the Southern Baptist Convention, something that my church is a part of.¬† So, I signed up!¬† Mentally it changed me so much.¬† As funny as it sounds, I didn’t think that I could still learn stuff :).¬† The History of Christianity was the first class, which dealt a lot with the First Century Church.¬† I can remember reading the book of Acts after taking this class¬†and it was liking reading it through a new pair of eyes.¬† Weird?¬†¬† I don’t think so.¬† Super cool is what I think!

So there are things on the above list that I am able to check off.  There are things that I am still working on, but that is ok too.  I am now able to add other things that I want to work on.

For instance:

  1. Run a 5K race (scheduled for March of 2012)
  2. Run a 10K¬†race (I’ve done this, but¬†on a treadmill)
  3. Run a half Marathon
  4. lower my sugar intake
  5. drink less coffee (I think I need a class for this one)
  6. volunteer more
  7. have more devotion/quiet time

I know there are lots more that I could add to the list and frankly probably will.¬† ūüôā

So how about you?¬† What goals are you working on right now?¬† Have you even set any?¬† Do you think it’s important to set goals?

This picture was taken in December of 2010 and I would definitely say that I am a different person from the one that is in the picture.  My beautiful sister in Christ Lauren went and stayed in a cabin for a weekend with me, for a time of reflection, and I am so glad that I had her with me to do that.

I hope that you have¬†a great day!¬† It’s really early so I think that¬†I will go back to sleep, or I will just get up and do a workout.¬† Probably sleep.¬† ūüėČ
